Clara Schafroth
It was with a great degree of sadness that Corning friends learned of the death of Miss Clara Schafroth which occurred Tuesday, June 14, 1921 at the hospital in Des Moines following an operation the day before. The body was brought to Corning Wednesday and the funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Federated Church conducted by Rev. W. C. Miles, pastor of the Federated Church of Corning. The body was laid to rest in the Methodist Grove Cemetery.
Miss Clara Schafroth was born and reared in Adams County. She was 44 years and 3 days old at the time of her demise, her birthday being June 11, 1877. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schafroth, both deceased. About 13 years ago, Miss Schaforth and her father, retired from farm life and came to Corning, where Mr. Schaforth passed from this life seven years ago. The past two years Miss Clara spent most of her time in Des Moines. When about 14 years of age, Miss Clara united with the Corning Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Riley of Mercer Township, and Mrs. Cora Gill of Iveyville; and one brother, M. L. Schaforth of Corning. Miss Clara was a very fine lady with a large acquaintance and was respected and admired by all. She will be missed by many and the bereaved relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of all.
