Elizabeth Hedinger, daughter of John and Elizabeth Hedinger, was born in Sardis, Ohio, October 13, 1863 and departed this life at her home in Corning on Wednesday December 17, 1952, at the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 4 days.
In 1869, with her parents, she moved to a farm near Brooks, Iowa and Adams County has been her home since that time.
In 1880, she was married to Edward Schafroth of the same community. To this union were born three children, Henry of Adel, Clarence of Corning, and Hulda Brown, also of Corning. Other survivors are two daughter-in-laws, Jessie Schafroth of Corning and Ida Schafroth of Adel, and one son-in-law, Carroll F. Brown, of Corning. The living grandchildren are Arlene Hunter of Edwardsville, Illinois, Carolyn Brown of Sacramento, California, Edward and Harold Schafroth of Des Moines, and Ralph Schafroth of Tripoli. Mrs. Emma Bogen of Pasadena, California, and Mrs. John Hedinger of Naperville, Illinois.
Also surviving are seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1922, and by two sisters, Mrs. Albertine Huston and Mrs. Caroline Kraft. and one brother Edward Hedinger.
In 1911, she and her husband retired from the farm, moving to Corning, where she has been a resident the remainder of her life.
She joined the Evangelical Church in early life. In 1911 she transferred her membership to the Corning M. E. Church and remained a faithful member to the last, although not physically able to attend regularly in later years. She was a life member of the W.C.T.U. She was always happy to meet with Christian people and to be in the House of the Lord. She was loving and kind and devoted to her family and friends, taking a great interest in the activities of the community.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church in Corning, Saturday, December 20, 1952 at 2 o'clock with Rev. Frank E. Jacobson officiating. Music was rendered by Mrs. Byron Stanley, Dorris Hosginson, Byron Stanley, and Eldon Gillet, accompanied at the organ by Mary Maskers. Pallbearers were Edward Schafroth, Harold Schafroth, William Schafroth, Joe Schafroth, Ralph Schafroth, and George Schafroth.
Interment was in Methodist Grove Cemetery.
