Gerritt John (Gary) Leusink. 79. son of John and Jane Vande Hoef Leusink, was born Oct. 23, 1911. at Middleburg and died Oct. 8, 1991, at Mercy Hospital in Coming.
He was reared and educated in the Sanborn area. After leaving school because of the depression, he worked for several years with the CCC before being employed by the CB&Q Railroad for 32 years.
On Aug. 14, 1937, he married Frances Townsend at Maryville. Mo. They were the parents of one son. After her death in 1950, they lived with the Townsend grandparents until their deaths.
On Jan. 5, 1980, he married Thelma Lucille Sutton Townsend at Corning.
In Corning he was a member of the United Methodist Church, Masonic Instruction Lodge #275 AF & AM, the Adams County Shrine Club, and the Order'bf the Eastern Star!
He was preceded in death by his parents: his first wife Frances; a brother-in-law, Peter Dykstra; and two step-sons, Charles and Raymond Townsend.
He is survived by his wife Thelma of Corning; his son Wayne Leusink and his wife Judy of Greeley, Colo.; a brother. Gene and wife Alice of Hull; two sisters. Grace Dykstra of Hull and Margaret Krommendyk and husband Bernie of Le Mars: four step-children, Harold Townsend and wife Lois of Bedford, Norma Hewitt and husband Bill of Oskaloosa, Eleanor Sheffield of Bedford, and Roberta Steelc and husband Russell of Corning; two grandchildren; 22 step-grandchildren; 41 stepgreat- grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Corning with the Revs. Don Strickler, Ken Rummer and W.H. Sinning officiating. Casket bearers were Len Leonard. Don Pfander, Fred McCard, George McAlpln, Paul Schafroth and Harry Grundman.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Corning. Masonic
rites were performed the evening before at Coen-Beaty
Funeral Home in Corning. Burial was In Oak Hill Cemetery.
