Florence Emma King Strain

Florence Emma Strain, daughter of Lyman and Nancy King, was born March 2nd 1868, near Stafford, Monroe County, Ohio and died November 9, 1939, at her home in Nodaway at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 7 days. Her mother died when she was 12 and at the age of 13, she moved with her father's family to Iowa in 1883. She has lived in or near Nodaway continuously since that time.
On December 25, 1901, she was united in marriage to Daniel K. Strain and to this union were born Evelyn Esther, who died at the age of three and Lyman Paul who died at the age of 8 months.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband; one brother Herbert King of near Guss, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
At an early age she united with the church and since has been closely affiliated with both the churches in Nodaway. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps of Nodaway and at the time of her death was acting as chaplain.
She was a devoted wife, a very dear sister, and was greatly loved by her nieces and nephews. She led a good Christian life and was most happy when helping others. She was a faithful friend and homemaker and will be greatly missed in by all who knew her.
The funeral service was in the Methodist Church of Nodaway, the sermon being preceded by Rev. Forest A. Helser, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. A. Lewis Kongable. The singers were Mrs. Floyd Neill, Mrs. Harold Everett, Leon rider, and Martin Taylor, with Mrs. Martin Taylor at the piano. The pall bearers were Ray McCoy, Ben Baker, Frank Kennedy, Emory Cramer, Oscar Starr, and K. C. Kennedy.
The brother of Dan Stain, Rev. Robert Strain, who has been a pastor of a Presbyterian Church in Calhoun, Missouri for the past seven years was present at the funeral. Mrs. Robert Strain accompanied her husband.
