Cora Alice Champ, daughter of William Wallace Champ and Mary Pilson, was born in Marshall County, Illinois, February 18th, 1869 and died at her home in Corning, Iowa, March 26, 1949 at the age of 80 years, 1 month, and 2 days.
She came to Corning with her parents in 1874. They located on a farm Mr. Champ had bought, Southwest of Quincy, Iowa. Then the county seat of Adams County. In time she graduated from the Corning, High School.
Cora Champ was married to Henry H. Hill on October 13, 1891, and materially helped her husband build a prosperous grocery business. Mr. Hill died December 7, 1920. April 12, 1924 she was married to Charles K. Munns. No children were born to either marriage. Besides her husband and step-daughter, Mrs. Lois M. Cohan of Hinesville, Georgia, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lottie Helper of Henry, Illinois.
She joined the Methodist Church when she was about seven years old. Her father was a noted Sunday School Superintendent in the Carbon District, near their farm. As she grew older, she became a member of the church choir and served in that way for about 50 years. She was a member of the P.E.O, the Woman's Club, the Dramatic Club, the C.T.U., and other clubs.
She became a member of the board of the Corning Public Library 25 years ago and when she resigned March 7, 1949 she was the oldest living member. She was always interested in anything for the betterment of Corning, where she had spent practically all of her life. Everyone liked her and she made friends with all whom she knew. She will be greatly missed, but she has served her time well.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 23, at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. R. T. White at the Methodist Church in Corning. Interment was made in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
