Perhaps you have found info. already.
It appears that William James Purdy died at Tilbury East, Kent, Ontario, Canada on May 27, 1903. His death registration is #013749. He was a widower, a Baptist and was struck by lightning.

He and his parents are enumerated in 1860 in Annawan, Henry County, Illinois. They are Robert James Purdy and Sarah Ann (Drury) Purdy. They are also there in Henry County in 1850. By the 1871 Canadian census, the parents have returned to Ontario.

Robert Purdy (born June 9, 1815) died in Tilbury East, Kent, Ontario, Canada on December 17, 1904, age 90, married, a Baptist, died of apoplexy. Death Registration #014221

Sarah Ann Purdy (born October 18, 1820) died also in Tilbury East on February 20, 1907, a widow, born in Kent County, Ontario of Bright's Disease.

There is a possibility that Robert Purdy is the son of Gilbert Purdy who is enumerated in 1861 in Chatham, Kent, Ontario, Canada, age 75, born in New Brunswick.
