Hi Heather,
Did you ever get any responses to your query? Everett Sickels is my
children's great grandfather though his son Dale. He and his wife are
buried in California, but his wife's parents, and her brother Oran Bell
are buried in Sherman County Nebraska in the cemetery that is north of
the county seat, as are some of the Sickels, the Sinners, the Grays,
etc. I was there last fall in September and found both cemeteries, and a
very helpful woman who works in the library, which is the city library
but also the school library. It is located in the school, and has the
newspaper microfilm. One of the "Mrs Sickels" was the newspaper
correspondents for her township area, so there are lots of little news items
in the newspaper. I have a genealogy.com family tree file, if you would
like to see it. It is not completely verified, and I have some real
questions about the generation that includes George Ackley Sickels,
because I found an 1860 census famly with the father listed as
Cornelius Sickels, George, Daniel, etc listed as the children in a
county in New York State. All of the family members were listed
identically to the ones seen in one of the family trees on the internet,
including George, but since he was already married to Sarah Jenkins and living
on a farm next to her parents in Iowa, you have really got to wonder.
At any rate, I would be glad to send you what I have. Have you had a
chance to visit Bridgewater, Iowa or the library in the county seat
there? It last lots of good resources and people are quite helpful.
Sincerely,
Margie Wateland
