Death of Gertrude Binns Crawford

Winterset Madisonian
May 7, 1908

Hannah Gertrude Binns was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, October 11, 1878, and died in Pueblo, Colorado, April 27, 1908, aged 29 years, 6 months and 16 days.

The subject of this sketch came to Middle River, Madison county, Iowa, in February 1879. All the remainder of her life was spent in this community except the last seven months which were spent in Pueblo, Colorado, in the hope of restoring her failing health. She was married to Ellis Crawford, Feb. 18, 1903. The deceased was converted in early childhood and united with the M.E. church, at Middle River, Iowa, of which she remained a faithful member until death. As long as her health permitted it, she was ever ready and willing to do all she could in church and Sunday School work. She was an obedient child, a true sister, and a kind, loving wife. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, father and mother, (Benjamin Shaw and Emaline Kentfield Binns), two sisters, four brothers and a great host of friends. Her sweet disposition won for her many friends wherever she went. Even in Pueblo, where she lived during the last few months of her life, she had won a great many warm friends. She took to her bed the middle of February, and though never able to be up again, bore her affliction with true christian fortitude. Her deep religious nature was indicated by her last world, "Will there be any stars in my crown".

The funeral services, which were conducted by Rev. W. W. Williams, a former pastor, and the pastor, Rev. C. E. Trueblood, were held in the Middle River M. E. church, Friday, May 1, 1908. The interment was in the Roberts Cemetery in Adair County.
