Arthur Hand Dies Suddenly Thursday
Arthur Hand, 58 years of age, former Greenfield businessman, died suddenly at his home here Thursday morning. Mr Hand had worked the day before his death and seemed in normal health.
Upon arising Thursday morning he was stricken with a heart attack and died within a few minutes.
Funeral services were held sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Greenfield. the Rev. W.F. Lister was in charge of the services.
Members of the mixed quartette were: Mrs. Clyde McClure, Mrs. P.C. Cornell, Frank Rhodes and P.L. Bickford with Miss Marian Shirk as accompanist. The selections were: "The Upper Garden", When I Take My Vacation in Heaven" and "Someday We'll Understand".Those serving as pallbearers were: Ray Stearns, Merle Baird, Bert Handley, George Chambers, Ed Lane and John Craven, Interment
was in the Greenfield cemetery.
The large number assembled to attend the services and pay tribute to the memory of their friend was an expression of the high esteem with which he was held by his many acquaintances.
Arthur Hand was born in Adair county, Sept. 26, 1875 and passed away March 8, 1934 at his home in Greenfield at the age of 58y,5m and 12d.He was united in marriage to Zelma Pearce in 1897. To this union was born four children, Mrs Golda Robinson of Rolfe, IA, Dale Hand of Waterloo, IA, Dean at home and Enid, deceased.
Mr. and Mrs Hand lived on a farm 3 1/2 miles northeast of Orient later moving to Greenfield ten years ago where he operated The Leader Store for six years.
He united with the Congregational church when but a child and was a faithful christian, a kind husband and loving faather. He leaves his loss, his widow, three children, four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. O.H. Pearce of Creston, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
