Death of Mrs. Gordon
Mrs. S.A. Gordon Passed Away Tuesday Morning
Funeral at 2:00 P.M. Friday

Mrs. Nancy Jane Gowin, born in Ripley county, Indiana, February 1835, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Eva D. Clampitt, near Montieth, Guthrie county, Tuesday morning, June 15, 1915.
Death was not unexpected by herself nor members of the family. She had lived the alloted time, had done her work well as wife and mother, neighbor and citizen, and passed to the life beyond,leaving a worthy record of helpful service to those with whom she lived. She was quiet and unassuming in life, but her everyday life is a record for memory to her immediate family and friends.

Mrs. Gordon was united in marriage to Samuel A. Gordon September 12, 1850. In the summer of 1852 this young couple left their home in Indiana and on October 15, settled on a farm in Madison county, Iowa, three and one half miles west of Winterset, where for twenty five years they made their home. In 1878, they moved to Adair county, nine miles southeast of Greenfield where they continued to reside until they moved to Greenfield in 1902, where Mr. Gordon passed away March 9, 1911. Since then Mrs. Gordon has made her home with her children.

To this union were born thirteen children, two of whom died in infancy, one died at the age of 14, John M., a son, died at Dexter, Iowa, Tuesday February 9, 1915. Nine Children are yet living; Mrs. S.M. Haxton, Orient; Mrs Oline Pettitt, Silver City, Iowa; Mrs. Eva D. Clampett, Montieth, Iowa; Mrs. Mittie Andrews, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Romesha, Greenfield; I.W. Gordon, Des Moines; U.S. Gordon, Orient; L.H. Gordon, Greenfield.

The body was brought to Greenfield yesterday. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church Friday at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery beside her husband. Rev. B.S. Denny of Des Moines will have charge of the service, who delivered the funeral sermon of the husband in 1911. He will use the text selected for the occasion by the deceased, before death.

Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Christian church during her life, and was a faithful member, doing her part of the church work while in health. Owing to the infirmatives of age her latter days could not be spent in the house of God. For the reason that the Christian chuch building at this place is undergoing repairs, it is necessary to hold the funeral services in another building.
