William Kilpatrick Answers Summons 1938

William Kilpatrick, 80, a resident of Adair County for over 50 years, died Sunday at his home here after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2p.m. at the Greenfield Presbyterian Church, in charge was Pastor, Ware W.Wimberly.
Music was furnished by a quartet Mrs.W.E.McCreight, Mrs.W.R.Alley, W.R.Piper and Glen Piper; with Mrs.W.R.Piper as organist.
The pallbearers were Bert Ray, Elmer Piper, L.G.Wolfe, W.T. Heifner, Guy Frizell and Will Holliday.
Interment took place in the Greenfield Cemetery.
William Kilpatrick, eldest son of Samuel and Elizabeth Irwin Kilpatrick, was born July 26,1857 at Waukesha, Wis., and departed this life on Feb.6,1938, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 10 days. When Mr. Kilpatrick was a small boy, the family moved to Monroe County, Iowa, the family locating near Albia.
On April 16,1879, he was united in marriage to Sarah Reed. To this union, 3 children were born, all of whom, with his wife, survive him. They are: Mrs.Walter (jennie) Piper of Greenfield, George Kilpatrick of Vancouver, Wash., and Roy Kilpatrick of Des Moines.Of the 11 children of which Mr. Kilpatrick was the eldest son, he is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. W.D.Bell of Glendora, California and Mrs.Susan Moffatt of Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Kilpatrick was a life-long member of the Presbyterian and United Presbyterian Churches. He was a faithful member of the Men's Bible Class of the Greenfield Presbyterian Church until failing health prevented his attending. His only frateral affiliation was with the I.O.O.F.
A successful farmer, a good neighbor, an upright citizen, a kind father, he built for himself a secure place in the esteem of his friends and in the hearts of his loved ones. A pioneer of this community, he was 1 of those who tried to build well the foundation upon which his children and others who came after him must erect their lives.
