Sarah Reed was born at Cambridge, Illinois, January 11, 1860, the 3rd daughter of a family of 8. The parents, Samuel and Janet Reed, moved the family to Adair County in 1873, settling on a farm.
Miss Sarah, or "Sadie" as she was known by her family and friends, became a member of the Presbyterian Church on confession of Faith, November 18,1877. She remained loyal to her Church through-out her entire lifetime and was faithful in attendance at the services. She loved her Church and the Christ whom she had accepted as her Lord and Saviour.
She was a member of the Peniel Bible Class of the Presbyterian Church and was a member of Martha Rebekah Lodge of Greenfield.
Sarah Reed and Wm.Kilpatrick were united in marriage April 16,1880. There were 3 children born to this couple, Jennie a daughter and 2 sons George and Roy, all living.
Mr. and Mrs. Kilpatrick farmed for themselves and continued on the farm until 1928, when they moved into Greenfield. Mr.William Kilpatrick preceded his wife in death February 5,1938. Mrs. Kilpatrick continued to live in her own home, doing most of her own work through the remaining years of her life. She was always active and interested in the affairs of her loved ones and community folk. Just a few weeks ago she was supervising the redecorating of her house. Then an unfortunate fall broke her arm, necessitating hospitalization. Here, her daughter was in almost constant attendance at her bedside and the son Roy, spent as much time as possible with her. But the shock of the fall and complications were too great for her to gather the strength needed, and she passed away quietly at the Creston Hospital.
Left to mourn her passing are the following of her children and their families: Mrs.W.A.Piper of Greenfield, G.A.Kilpatrick of Vancouver, Washington and R.S.Kilpatrick of Des Moines. One brother remains, Robert J.Reed also of Greenfield. There are 5 grandchildren, with a host of other relatives and friends who share in the sorrow of this hour.
