Harley Earl Wallace, 76,passed away Friday, March 11,2005, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
He was born March 5,1929, in Richland Township to Clyde Charlie and Ollie Blanche [Dunkerson] Wallace.
Harley was raised in Richland Township and graduated from Richland High School with the class of 1950.
After graduation he married Donna Jean Christensen at the Fontanelle Parsonage in Fontanelle. They had dated since the age of 14. Harley and Donna celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary a few years ago. To this union 4 children were born: Bobby, Richard, Phyllis and Darlene.
On Aug.8,1951, Harley was drafted into the Army right after their marriage. On July 15,1953, he transferred to the Army Researves and continued to serve his country during the Korean War until being honorably dicharged on Sept.1,1959.
After Harley returned from service, they lived in Fontanelle until they rented a farm near Fontanelle. They farmed for 47 years and he drove a school bus for the Bridgewater-Fontanelle Community Schools. Harley also mowed yards, pruned bushes and did snow removal for people. He enjoyed fishing, movies and flower beds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ollie Wallace; father-in-law, Nels Christensen; mother-in-law, Helen Christensen; sister-in-law, Roberta Christensen; and wife Donna Jean Wallace on Sept.10,2003.
He is survived by his sons Bobby Wallace and wife Jo of Orient; Brenda of Greenfield; daughters Phyllis and husband Craig Eshelman of Bridgewater and Darlene Wallace of Fontanelle; 8 grandchildren; Jason Wallace, April and husband Brian McDaniel, Hilary Wallace, Crystal and husband Bobby Dabb, Phylisha Eshelman, Constance Eshelman, Clinton Eshelman and Brycen Wallace; 3 great-grandchildren: Braxton Wallace, Molly Dabb and Marcy Dabb; 3 brothers: Harold and wife Mary Wallace of Greenfield, Harvey and wife Joan Wallace of Fontanelle, Herschel and wife Rose Ann Wallace of Arkansas; brother-in-law Earl Christensen and wife Joyce of Fontanelle; 2 sister-in-law: Betty Baudler and husband Louis of Fontanelle and Delores Kinney and husband Ronald of Casey; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held March 16 at the United Methodist Church in Fontanelle with the Rev.David Kruse officiating.
Music tributes were by organist Patty Maeder and vocalist Mark Maeder.
Pallbearers were Doug Wallace, Kurt Wallace, Cristi Skram, Ted Wallace, Jami Wallace, Lisa Stefani, Mark Wallace, Jon Wallace and Joni Black.
Honorary pallbearers were Richard and Marilyn Dwyer, Louie and Lillie Johnson, Leo and Joyce Tucker, Lola and John Schrader, Dale and Marcia Lantz, James and Marlin Wyllie, Wayne and Eileen Handley, Bob and Charlotte Groves and C.Eugene Sliter.
The floral committe included Kevin and Marcy Blazek, Linda and John Marlin, Francis and Joan David, Donna and Ronnie Martin, Karen and Dean Cass, and Mabel Wilbourne.
Interment was in the Fontanelle Cemetery with full Military Graveside Rites by William Thompson American Legion Post #703.
