Funeral Tuesday for Charles J.Paxton

Funeral services for Charles J.Paxton, 68 were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bickford Funeral Home in Greenfield at 2 p.m. Rev.Glen E.Dilley, Presbyterian Pastor conducted the services. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs.P.L.Bickford with Mrs.Alley Nelson as accompanist. The selections: "Face to Face" and "In The Garden". Those serving as casketbearers were: Ivan Queck, Andy Funke, Bill Sturdy, Harold Lundy, Paul Patterson and "Bob" Roberts. Interment took place in the Greenfield Cemetery.
Charles Joseph Paxton, the youngest of 11 children born to Francis and Clarissa StJohn Paxton, was born in Tama County, Iowa March 2,1883 and passed away early Sunday morning Feb.17,1952 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 15 days, where he had been critically ill for 2 weeks.
Charley, as everybody knew him, grew to manhood in his native County of Tama and on Sept.24,1905 he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Harris of Greenfield. They were married in Greenfield by Rev. John Young Presbyterian pastor.
Mr.and Mrs.Paxton made their home in Tama County until the Spring of 1907, when they moved to the farm in Prussia Township, Adair County, which they had purchased and which proved to be his lifelong residence.
One son Charles Everett was born to Mr.and Mrs. Paxton and has been a constant companion to his father from childhood. Charley was most fond of his family, and home and has always been devoutly interested in their welfare. He has also exemplified a profound interest in doing his farm work in a systematic and efficient manner.
Among his many sterling qualities was his appreciation of honesty and moral uprightness of life.
Those surviving Mr. Paxton besides his faithful wife and son; are his daughter-in-law Florence and his 3 grandsons Audrey Dean, Bennie Charles and Jerry Everett all of whom he was very fond. Also surviving him is 1 sister Mrs. J.R.Dwigans of Greenfield and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 brothers' and 5 sisters'.
