Helen Lenore Kellenberg, 84, passed away Sept.6,2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born Sept.25,1917, to William and Wilhelmine "Minnie" [Weber] Bittner in Adair County.
Lenore grew up in Adair County attending Prussia No.6 and 7 country schools.
She was baptized and confirmed at Prussia Lutheran Church in Prussia Township.
On Feb.25,1940, Lenore was united in marriage to Alfred Kellenberg at the home of her parents. 4 children Janice, James, Norma and Linda were born to this union.
After farming for many years, they moved to Des Moines and worked for the Art Wittern family for 10 years and later moved to Greenfield. She joined other family members in the wallpaper and painting business.
Alfred and Lenore were proud of their garden and yard and enjoyed their glider swing. Their children and grandchildren especially treasured Lenore's homemade rolls, pies, jams and jellies that she loved making for them.
She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield, taught Sunday School and was active in the Women's Missionary League, helping to make quilts and other projects.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 sisters; LaVerne Kellenberg, Mardelle Rice, Lois Wahe and Opal Dorsey.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alfred of Greenfield; 4 children;Janice and husband Dale Kimes of Green Valley, Ariz., Jim Kellenberg of Des Moines, Norma and husband Mike Swift of Cedar Rapids and Linda and husband Alan Brewer of Greenfield;7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Margaret Hepler of Spring, Tx., and Isabelle Heinbuch and husband Maynard of Greenfield; a brother Max Bittner and wife Donna of Greenfield; many 1st and 2nd cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Sept.9 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield with Rev.Keith Schweitzer officiating.
Music was provided by Zelda Paullin, organist, and vocalist Dennis Kellenberg.
Pallbearers were Tim Swift, Kevin Brewer, Dan Werts, Mark Swift, Jason Brewer, Dan Kimes and James Laursen.
The floral committee was Wilma Weber, Twilah Sturdy and Susan Baudler.
Interment was in the Greenfield Cemetery.
Steen Funeral Homes of Greenfield provided professional services.
