Velma M.Lohafer 90, passed away at Fontanelle July 4,2004.
Velma Muriel [Brown] Lohafer was born Sept. 11,1913, to Harry and Eva Brown in Adair County. She was 1 of 5 children, with 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Early in Velma's life the family lived for a short time in Burlington, then located in Bridgewater where she grew up and met her husband, Henry "Hank" Lohafer. They married Dec.25,1930, and settled in Greenfield where they raised a daughter Rolene. Velma and Hank were married 59 years and enjoyed their life together side by side in everything they did.
Always a homemaker, Velma also was employed as a retail clerk at the Golden Rule Clothing Store, Burger and son Plumbing. For 2 years, she and Hank were house parents at the Toleto Boys Home in Toledo, Iowa. She enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, gardening, crocheting and was an expert seamstress.
Velma and Hank were parted by his death on March 14,1990. The qyite twinkle in her eye that was Velma's was gone. Also preceding her were her parents; sister Letha Ahnen and brother Arthur Brown.
Surviving Velmaare her daughter Rolene Roll of Greenfield; 2 granddaughtes Sharon Jurgensen and husband Bill of Stuart; and Boots Campbell and companion Walt Brown of Meeker,Colorado; 7 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; brotherLoren "Tuffy" Brown and wife Mary Ann of Greenfield; sister Delores Scott and husband Bill of Powell, Wyo.; other relatives and friends.
Velma also leaves a second family, the caregivers and friends at the Good Samaritan Care Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday July 8, at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev.Chad Lieman officiating.
Music tributes were recorded selections of "I'll Fly Away" and "Wait Til You See My Brand New Home".
Pallbearers were Quintin Dean, Jack Dean, Lance Arrasmith, Daniel Dean, Paul Williams and Bill Jurgensen.
Interment was in the Fontanelle Cemetery.
