Verle L.Armstrong 75, passed away July 7,2004, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
Verle Leroy Armstrong was born April 21,1929, to Edwin Hall and Amelia Margaretha [Ehrenfried] Armstrong in rural Adair County.
Verle grew up in Fontanelle and graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1948. He was baptized and confirmed in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle and tranferred his membership to the Greenfield United Methodist Church.
On Sept.8,1950, he was united in marriage to Doris Eileen Jameson in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. 3 children were born to this union Douglas, Kathleen and Steven.
Verle lived in Greenfield all his married life. For 45 years he worked as a superintendent for Schildberg Construction. He enjoyed woodworking, ponies, and helping people on their projects.
He was preceded in death by his father Edwin Armstrong.
He is survived by his wife Eileen Armstrong of Greenfield; children-Douglas and wife Terry of Glenwood; Kathleen and husband Tim Foster and Steven Armstrong and wife Lori of Greenfield; 5 grandchildren- Joshua and Jacob Armstrong; Adam and Alex Foster and Heather Armstrong; his mother Amelia Armstrong of Fontanelle; twin sister Verlene and husband Richard Williamson of Fontanelle; brothers Virgil Armstrong and wife Joann of Greenfield and Leo Armstrong and wife Rosie of Fontanelle; his "adopted" Jameson brothers and sisters and a large extended family of many relatives and dear friends.
Outdoor memorial services were held Saturday, July 10, at the Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center with the Rev. Sandy Smith officiating.
Music tributes were recorded selections "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "I Hope You Dance".
Tribute reading was by Tom Bingaman.
Ushers were Cletus Mosbach, Mark Lents, Mick Sherer, Tom Anderson and Willard Olesen.
The floral committee was Diane Weiland, Susannah Eddy, Nho Lo Van and Marilyn Geidel.
Interment will be in the Greenfield Cemetery at a later date.
