Leona M.Ludwig, 94,long-time resident of the Casey community, died Friday, July 23,2004.

Leona Maxine Laidley was born April 18,1910, at Monteith, the daughter of A.E. and Mary C.J.Moore Laidley. She grew up in the Monteith area and attended rural schools. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School. She attended Simpson College where she graduated in 1932.

Leona was married June 23,1934, to Ellsworth O.Ludwig at Greenfield. They farmed until 1962 at which time they moved to Casey.

Mrs. Ludwig had worked at various jobs in nursing homes and restaurants until retiring. She enjoyed gardening and giving the produce to friends and family, cooking large dinners for Sunday company and reading.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and of the Mary Circle. She had been a member of the Rebekka Lodge and the Stitch and Chatter Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son Dennis Ludwig; 4 brothers, Ted, Laurel, Lawrence and Tom Laidley; and 2 sisters, Jessica Stevens and Adeline Mains.

Survivors include 1 son, Paul Ludwig of Casey; 1 daughter, Beverly McPhee of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Harold Laidley of Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, at the United Methodist Church in Casey, conducted by the Rev.Gerald T.Armstrong. Brenda Wedemeyer was the organist. Pallbearers were Gary Ohms, Steve Ludwig,Boyd Grubbs, Dennis Ludwig Jr., Keith McPhee, Pat McPhee, Jeff Bernes and Greg Maser.

Interment was in the Monteith Cemetery.
