Funeral Services Held Monday For Ed Brawdy 88 of Oregon

Isaac Edward Brawdy son of Grandeson and Eliza Ann Simpson Brawdy was born Oct.1,1879 in Jackson Township, Adair County, Iowa and passed away at the Newberg Care Home in Newberg, Oregon on April 10,1968 at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 9 days. He was one of a family of 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls.

He received his education in the rural schools of Adair County.

He attended church and Sunday school when a young boy and at the age of 17 he became a member of the Evangelical Church of Bridgewater when that church was discontinued he transferred his membership to the Methodist Church of Bridgewater where he remained a member until his death.

Mr.Brawdy was united in marriage to Estella Brown March 27,1898 at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. George Brown. They established their home in Bridgewater where he was employed by James Smeeton a hog buyer and feeder. He later became engaged in farming and the carpenter trade. They spent their entire married life in this community.

Four sons Floyd, Orland, Roy and Grandeson were born to this union. Floyd and Grandeson passed away in early youth and Roy died in 1963.

Ed was a quiet unassuming man of good character active in community and civic affairs taking an active part in many worthwhile affairs of the community. He served as mayor of Bridgewater for many years and also as a member of the Town Council. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed.

He was a kind loving husband and father caring faithfully for his wife whose health was very poor for many years.

His health began to fail in 1954 when he suffered a stroke and he has never been well since and had to undergo surgery several times. After his stroke he was cared for by his faithful wife until her death in 1959; then he went to make his home with his son Orland and wife at Sherwood, Oregon where he lived until about 10 days before his death when he was taken to the Care Home and passed away.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife;3 sons; sisters Martha Ellen Brawdy; Sarah Jane Lundy; brothers Charles, Hardin, Perry, James and John Brawdy.

He is survived by 1 son Orland and family, another daughter-in-law Evelyn Brawdy Hemphill of Bridgewater; 2 grandsons and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday Apr.15,1968 at 3 p.m. at the Bridgewater Methodist Church with Rev.Edward Tan .

Music was furnished by Mrs. Ruth Gipple and Elto Williams who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Some Golden Daybreak" accompanied by Mrs.Neva Sinner.

Floral committee were Mrs.Earl Metzger,Mrs.Violet Heyn and Mrs.Kenneth Evans.

Pallbearers were Bill Bower,Don Sullivan, Kenneth Evans,Earl Metzger,Robert Lents and Kenneth Chafa.

Interment was in the Garner Cemetery south of Bridgewater.
