Mrs. Barbara M.Cornell daughter of Henry and Barbara Ann [Neiswanger] Kurtz was born in Champaign County, Ill. March 16,1885. Her death occurred at 12:10 p.m. Friday Nov.7,1952 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield after a short decline in health and few were aware that her journey on earth was so near the end. She was the widow of Porter Cornell prominent Greenfield Pharmacist who operated a pharmacy on the west side of the Greenfield square for 35 years in the years preceding July 1941.
Most of her formal schooling was received in Greenfield where she gained experience and a sence of sympathy that made her not only useful but comprehending in many activities outside her home in the mature years before her.
At the age of 19 in 1905 she became the bride of Porter Cornell in a ceremony performed at Fowler, Colorado. 3 children were born to this union a son Harold who died in infancy; a son Dr. Dale D.Cornell who with his wife Maria lives in Boise, Idaho and a daughter Betty Ann who with her husband Robert Yeamans lives in Los Angeles, Calif. Other relatives are 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren several nieces and nephews and 2 brothers Harry Kurtz of Long Beach, Calif. and Ray Kurtz of Greenfield, Iowa who are the last of a family of 12 brothers and sisters.
