Funeral Rites Tuesday For Roy Brown

BROWN, BENEDECT, NEW, SEVIER, BRAWDYSWANGREM, SCOTT, SHINKLE, AND LOHAFER

Roy Brown son of the late George A. and Laura Benedict Brown was born Jan. 8,1883 at Bridgewater,Iowa and departed this life at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa Dec.17,1950 at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 9 days.

He was united in marriage Oct.14,1909 to Nillie New at Burlington, Iowa. They then returned to Bridgewater where most of his entire life was spent in Adair County with the exception of 5 uyears spent in Union County. Two years ago they retired from the farm and moved to Greenfield which remained his home until his death.

To this union were born 5 children who survive Kenton of Fontanelle; Mildred Sevier of Greenfield; George of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Clifford of Orient and John of Greenfield; also 6 grandchildren; 1 sister Stella Brawdy and 2 brothers Ed and Harry of Bridgewater. He was preceded in death by his wife last August. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Greenfield. He was a devoted Christian and loved his Church next to his family.

Funeral services were held at the Bridgewater Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon Dec.19,1950 at 2 p.m. conducted by his Pastor Rev. Frank Jacobs of Greenfield and assisted by Rev.John Alexander Pastor of the Bridgewater Methodist Church.

The music was furnished by a male quarette composed of Messrs. Rochelle Davis, Daryl Scott, Elton Williams and Lawrence Lockert who sang "Shall We Gather At The River" "Sweet Hour Of Prayer" and "Rock Of Ages". The accompaniments were played on the piano by Mrs. Clem Sinner.

The pallbearers were Clifford Sulgrove, Frank VanFleet, Charles Beaman, Arthur Guthrie, William Ahnen and Ray Dibel.

Interment was made beside his wife in the Garner Cemetery.

Relatives from a distance who came to attend the Roy Brown Funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Brown and Marie of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford New and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie New and Miss Elsie Swangrem of Chariton; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scott of Powell, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown of Afton, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown of Creston, Mr. and Mrs. Don Brown of Prescott; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shinkle of Carl and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lohafer and Mr. and Mrs. Loren Brown of Greenfield and his children from their various homes.
