Earlham Echo – Earlham, Iowa
March 17, 1904

Eliza Ann Barnett Pryor was born in Clinton county, Ohio, Feb. 16, 1826. She moved with her parents, William and Mary Barnett, to Marion county, Indiana, in 18—and from there to Iowa in 1855, settling in Madison county, where she made her home until 1880. In this year she was united in marriage with Samuel Pryor of Adair county, where she has ever since made her home with the exception of one year when the family lived in Earlham.

To this union were born five children, two of whom survive her. Three of her children and husband have preceded her to the better land.

At twelve years of age she became a member of the society of Friends and remained a member until after her marriage. Having to move from the Friends neighborhood, she then united her membership, as well as her efforts, with the Methodist church. She again united with the Friends church at Stuart in 1903. She was always a faithful member and helper and always had a helping hand and word for all she met.

She died at the advanced age of seventy-eight years and fourteen days, March 1, 1904, at 10 o’clock a.m. at the home of her son, Dayton Pryor where she has made her home since the death of her husband. She was sick only about two weeks with la grippe and pneumonia.

She was a sister of Mrs. Mark Thomas.
