Greenfield cemetery.

Relatives from a distance present for the service were: a daughter, Mrs. Frederick Winn and daughter Nancy of Barrington, Illinois and grandchildren, Mrs. Fred Smith, Carol and Freddie of Kansas City and Mr. and Mrs. John Cruchelo of Des Moines.

Orville Sackett, son of Hiram and Mary Sackett, was born June 13, 1872 near Bloomington, Illinois and passed away at his home in Grove township, Thursday evening January 4, 1945 at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 21 days.

In infancy he moved with his parents in a covered wagon to Iowa. He lived thirty-five on the old home farm in Grove township. He had been an invalid for the last six years, having suffered a stroke that rendered him speechless and helpless, but was faithfully cared for by his wife and son Donald in the home assisted by the other children and families as much as possible. Why such a malady was sent upon him cannot be understood. He was a good neighbor, a kind friend, a loving husband and father and was especially interested in his home and the comfort and welfare of his family.

He was united in marriage with Mabel Head, Feb. 2, 1898. To this union six children were born: Howard E., of Creston, Iowa, twin daughters, Freda and Frances, deceased; Mrs. Ethel Lane of Greenfield; Donald at home and Mrs. Mildred Winn of Barrington, Ill., who with their mother, seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren survive.

He was a member of a family of five brothers and a sister, only one brother, Harry Sackett surviving. His brothers, Lyman, Frank, Dudley and Clarke have preceded him in death.

Friends and relatives tried to contribute to his comfort with cards, letters and gifts during his prolonged illness of six long years. His family provided everything they felt would be a comfort to him and shared his companionship through the weary days as the months lengthened into years and his condition showed but little change. The scene of his illness is now a memory in the minds of those who loved him best and friends who sympathized with him will ever cherish his memory.
