From the Free Press, Jan 22, 1984 p 6 “ Sarah Corrine Saylor Funke was born July 19, 1914 in Liberal Kansas and passed away June 15, 1984 at the Winterset Care Center South. She was almost 70. Her parents were Joseph Sanford and Mary Fonda Thompson Saylor. When she was two years old the family moved to Adair County, where she attended Grand River No 1 School, then Winterset High school and later graduated form Greenfield High School with a normal training certificate. She taught in the rural schools of Adair County. Corrine married Ernest Funke August 15, 1934. Pete and Coed* were the parents of one daughter, Mary Louise. They farmed in Adair County many years before moving to Greenfield, where they resided until August of 1981, when she entered the care center. Coed’s life centered around her family and home and her greatest pleasure was working in her garden and in the fields. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, a sister Dorothy Stewart and a brother Glen Saylor. (part omitted) Funeral services were held June 19 at the Steen funeral home in Greenfield, with interment in the Greenfield Cemetery”
