From the Adair County Free Press:
“Henry Filmore Harris was born September 29, 1856 in Putnam County, Indiana, died August 26, 1919 at his home in Harrison Township, Adair County, Iowa at the age of 62 years 10 months and 27 days. When a small child he moved with his parents to Kansas, thence to Missouri, coming to Iowa in 1874, where his father bought and built the present homestead. After the death of his father he purchased the farm and lived there until his death, a period of 45 years. Mr. Harris witnessed the change of this country from a vast prairie wilderness to a great agricultural section. He was married March 21, 1888 to Martha J. Moyers of Boone County, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Walter A., Della I. and Howard F., all of whom reside at home. He was a kind and loving husband and father. While he never united with any church, he was a devout believer in the Christian faith. He was a member of the Stuart Lodge, No 214 IOOF. He leaves to mourn his departure besides a host of friends and neighbors, a wife, his three children, and also three brothers and three sisters as follows: Simpson Harris, Urick, MO; Hermon Harris, Bakerfield, CA; Theodore Harris, Filmore, CA; Alice H. Scott, Bakerfield, CA; Hattie Beaman, Leon, KS; Josephine Loucks*, Indianola, IA. Mrs. Luock* was the only one of his brothers and sisters who was present at the funeral. The funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Fairview church. The services at the grave were conducted by the Odd Fellows”
