Sarah Roads Hornby, 105, of Des Moines died July 14, 2003 at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held July 18, 2003 at the Southtown Funeral Home. Interment will be at North Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart.

Sarah Elizabeth Roads, was born to George and Della M. Smith Roads on September 3, 1897 in Adair County, south of Stuart.

She was raised in the Stuart area. On May 11, 1934 she married Claude E. Hornby and they lived in Des Moines.

She had been employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for many years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines and also an 83 year member of Columbia Rebekah Lodge #6 in Stuart.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by a niece, Janice Halbert of Anderson, Calif., other relatives and friends.
