John Weichman, Wife Celebrate Their 55th Marriage Milestone

Newhall, March 31. Mr. and Mrs. John Weichman, retired farmers of Newhall, celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary at their home Tuesday evening when relatives and friends brought a basket supper and spent the evening visiting and playing cards.
The couple was married March 29, 1883, by Rev. Mikota at Norway, the bride being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davis and the bridegroom the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weichman. On their wedding day a large crowd of relatives and friends attended a dinner and midnight supper. Dancing began early in the evening and continued until dawn with Charles Rosburg, brother of John Rosburg of Newhall, furnishing the accordian music. They farmed in the Newhall vicinity for 36 years, retiring in 1919. Their eight living children are Mrs. August Abraham, Vinton; Mrs. William Brecht, Shellsburg; Mrs Edgar Brecht, Firman, Irvin and Emery, Newhall; Leo, Independence, and Henry, Shellsburg.
They have 20 grandchildren: Mrs. Donald Campbell and Marie Boddicker, Cedar Rapids; Lois Boddicker, Mildren Boddicker, Virginia Brecht, Viola, Edna, Gail, Phyllis, Rozella, and Joyce Weichman, Newhall; Bernice Boddicker, Crawfordsville; John Schroeder, Cedar Falls; Ruth Brecht, Arlene and Rolland Brecht, Rhoda Ann, John and James Weichman, Shellsburg; Iver Brecht, Iowa City; Mrs. Floyd Kerkman, Van Horne, and Glen Abraham, Vinton. Great grandchildren are Keith Kerkman, John and Elaine Abraham and Robert Lee Campbell.
Those attending the anniversary party were: Mr. and Mrs. Emery Weichman and family, Firman Weichman and daughters Viola and Edna, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Brecht and Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Boddicker, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Boddicker, Louis Deklotz and son Merle, Irvin Weichman and Oscar Klein, all of Newhall; Mr. and Mrs. William Brecht, Shellsburg; Carl Schlotterbeck, Spirit Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Weichman, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Abraham and Mr. and Mrs. August Abraham of Vinton and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kerkman, Van Horne.
