                       STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council is that body which furthers the
interest of the students and acts as a mediator in effecting
a closer union between the students. It brings a closer and
better understanding between the students and the faculty.
This organization is the students mouthpiece in school affairs.

This organization began in 1934 and has continued since,
progressing with its work each year. It has sponsored Stunt
Night for three years, and a carnival this last year. It also
has had campaigns for dental work and furnished safety programs
such as contests, movies, and plays. The Student Council
has supervised all fire drills, the examination of the school
house and has helped in making "open house" a success.

The council members are representatives from each class -
president and vice-president.

                         GLEE CLUBS

An active organization for the past four years has been
the girls' glee clubs. At the present time it has twenty
eight members. The boys' glee club, with twenty one members
has showed a great deal activity only in the last two years.
Both glee clubs have participated in music contents, the girls
for four years and the boys for only two years.

In 1937-37, an operetta titled "Bobby" under the direction
of Miss Gracka Quandt, was presented by both the boys' and
girls' glee clubs. In the spring of 1937, the members entered
the music contest held at Vinton. Both glee clubs, the sextet
quartet, and soprano solo received a rating of good. Later
in the spring, both clubs participated in a mixed chorus
festival at Vinton.

In 1937-38, the boys' and girls' glee clubs presented a
cantata, "Chimes of the Holy Night" under the direction of
Miss Gracka Quandt, music director. Later in the year they
sponsored a pie social for the purpose of securing money for
transportation for the music contest, this time held in
Waterloo. The girls' glee club, sextet, soprano and bass
solos held a rating of excellent and the boys' glee club
and quartet received ratings of good. This was a definite
improvement over the results of 1936-'37.

In the Keystone high school, the seniors with the highest
honors in the scholastic field during his or her four
years in high school, gives the valedictory at the commencement
exercises. The student with the second high record gives
the salutatory.

In 1935, these high honors went to Eleanor See,
valedictorian, and Ruth Brauer, salutatorian. In 1936, Gladys
Roth received high and Robert Harder second. Dale Allers
won the place of valedictorian in 1937 and Alice Kusel,

on the part of the student throughout his four years
of high school.
