Caroline Wilcox

Miss Caroline Wilcox died at the home of her brother, Lewis Wilcox, west of this city, at 6 o’clock Wednesday morning, Jan. 6. The funeral was held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. J. D. Vannoy. Miss Wilcox was born in Broome county, New, York, Oct. 27, 1818, and for the last thirty-nine years of her life made her home with her brother. She joined the Baptist church when 12 years old and ever afterward remained a worthy member of that denomination. She found her greatest pleasure in assisting in the home where she lived for so many years. She had but few acquaintances but they were all her friends. She died of old age and her death was calm and painless.

Obituary
Lura Stackhouse Wilcox

Lura Carrier was born in Vermont, April, 1817, and with her parents came to Illinois and Chicago when there was but one farm house there. Married to John Stackhouse in 1873. Afterwards they moved to Madison county, Wisconsin, among the first to settle, where she gave birth to the first white child born in that county, who is the wife of Ed. Coldwell, of Harrison township. After the death of her husband, in Wisconsin, in 1858, she moved to Benton County, Iowa where, in Feb. 1868, she was married to Hiram J. Wilcox, of Benton towhship. Soon after her second marriage she was united with the church to which her husband was a member, the Evangelical, and lived an exemplary christian until death came, on August 23d, 1888, after a second widowhood of over two years. All who knew the deceased loved and respected her for her kind motherly disposition and will sincerely sympathize with the mourning relatives.

{Submitter comment: obituary states married in 1873 to John Stackhouse, then states she moved after the death of her husband in 1858. error in date of marriage in printing.}
