Vinton's First White Child Dies

William M. Traer Born in 1852 Passes Away at Burlington.
Four Children Are Left to Mourn.
Vinton, Jan. 31 - Special: The remains of the late William M. Traer arrived in here yesterday afternoon from Burlington where Mr. Traer died on Thursday. Deceased had the distinction of being the first white child born in Vinton. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Traer and was born in 1852. For a number of years he clerked in his father's store, but in 1884 he entered the mail service but gave up the work after one year. He again entered this service in 1880 and continued until in 1912 he gave up work on account of ill health. He moved to Vinton after his retirement but lived here only a short time when he moved to Burlington where he resided until his death. He is survived by four children, James W., who was for many years foreman at the Vinton Eagle Office, William M., Jr., and Lawrence W., both of Melbourne, Fla., and Mrs. Jessie I. Palmer of Chicago. Funeral services were held this morning at the home of his brother, J. F. Traer, in charge of Rev. P. Marion Simms. Burial was made at Evergreen Cemetery.
