Henry O. Schloeman

NORWAY: Henry O. Schloeman, 90, of 1220 5th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Friday morning, April 29, 193 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids

Services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Norway United Methodist church, with the Rev. Don Hodson, Blairstown, officiating. Mrs. Louis Blackburn was organist, and Mrs. Don Hodson, soloist. Wayne Riley and John Brockschink were ushers

Pallbearers were Richard Edwards and Robert Buelow, Marengo; David Volz and Richard Berger, Norway; William McKechnie and Glenn Haerther, both Atkins. Burial was at Cedar Memorial cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with Masonic graveside services. A memorial fund has been established

Henry O. Schloeman was born May 3, 1892 on a farm south of Norway to John F. and Isaphine Brown Schloeman. He married Ruth Jones of Osceola, Aug. 20, 1920. They farmed two miles south of Norway until 1962 when they retired to a home in Norway where they have lived until recently

Schloeman was a member of Norway United Methodist Church, a 60-year member of Norway American Legion Post 234, Masons St. Clair Lodge 164, A.F. and A.M., and Mystic Star Chapter 23, Order of Eastern Star

He served as director of Benton County Saving bank for more than 50 years, including 29 years as its president

He was recently named honorary life dirctor and honored for 58 years service to Lenox Mutual Insurance association, Norway, after serving as president of the organization for 46 years and prior to that as its assessor, AAA chairman, and president of South Slope Cooperative Telephone company. He served on the Benton County fair board for 23 years

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Marjorie (Mrs. Jack) McDowell, inton; and a granddaughter, Leigh McDowell, Vinton

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Linne and Lillian Schloeman and Dorothy Towner

Brosh's, Norway, was in charge of arrangements, David Hrabak, Belle Plaine, funeral director.

MRS. SCHLOEMAN DIES AT NORWAY; BURIAL TUESDAY

BENTON COUNTY NEWS

Norway, May 10.- Mrs. Ida Schloeman, 57, postmistress here for 16 years, died of cancer Sunday morning at her Norway home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Howell of Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in the North Liberty, Ia., cemetery.

Mrs. Schloeman, a native of Benton county, was born here Oct. 5, 1879, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fahnle. She was married March 28, 1898, to Edwin Schloeman. Their three children are - Miss Helen Schloeman, who has been living with her mother; John Schloeman of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Harry Brookman of Center Point. Other members of her family are four grandchildren.

Two sisters and a brother surviving include Mrs. Henry Thomas of Norway, Mrs. J. Leonard of San Jose, Cal., and George Fahnle of Norway. Mrs. Schloeman's appointment as postmistress here expired two and a half years ago.
