Mrs. Rosburg Dies at her home

Mrs. Rosburg passed away at her home in Shellsburg Thursday, Feb. 18, 1915. Mrs. Rosburg was an old resident of Shellsburg; She leaves to mourn her children, Charles Rosburg of Onawa, Iowa; Herman Rosburg of Shellsburg; Mrs. Maggie Kollenkirk, Atkins, Iowa; Mrs Emma Saunders Cedar Rapids, and a large number of friends and old acquaintanceds. Mrs. Rosburg's death was caused by pneumonia. She had been sick only a few days. The funeral services were held at her home and were conducted by Rev. J. W. Thompson.

LUZERNE PIONEER PASSED AWAY.
Mrs. Mary Rosburg Was Oldest Member of Lutheran church at Luzerne.
Mrs. Mary Rosburg, widow of the late Wm. Rosburg, passed away this (Thursday) afternoon at her home in Luzerne at one o'clock. The end came peacefully with all of her daughters with the exception of Mrs. Arthur Welterlen of Edgewood, Iowa, at her bedside. The latter was on her way to Luzerne at the time of her mother's death.
Mrs. Rosburg had been ill since April with heart trouble and complications. Her daughter Mrs. Wm. Kouba and family of Luzerne moved into her home and she had been tenderly cared for by them during her illness of the past three months.
She was a kind and indulgent mother and a true friend to all.
The death of Mrs. Rosburg removes the oldest member of the Lutheran church at Luzerne. Throughout her long residence there she has been a faithful attendant and active worker in that church.
Maria Dorothea Nieland was born October 4th, 1847 in Mecklenburg, Germany, daughter of Henry and Mary Nieland. In the year 1854 she came to the United States with her parents, settling in Clayton county, Iowa.
On October 31st, 1863 she was united in marriage with William Rosburg in Fayette county, Iowa. They resided in Clayton county, Iowa, until 1868 when they moved to Blairstown and in 1869 removed to Luzerne where the family has since resided. This union was blessed with eleven children, three of whom preceded the mother in death, a daughter Mrs. Martha Peterman in 1917 and son Charles in 1926 and daughter Emma in infancy. Her husband died April 17th, 1917.
Eight children survive, namely Rose Van Deusen, Van Horne, Ia., Amelia Westinghouse, Belle Plaine, Ia., Wm. F. Rosburg, Ward, S. Dak., Mary A. Studt, Luzerne, Ia., Amanda Kouba, Luzerne, Ia., Laura M. Kouba, Luzerne, Ia., Ella Studt, Luzere, Ia., Esther A. Welterlen, Edgewood, Ia.
There are 21 grand-children, and 22 great grand children.
Funeral arrangements have not been made at the present time but it is probable that it will be held on Sunday.
