Bessie Ruth Paterson

Shellsburg-Bessie Ruth Paterson, 85 died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000 at the Hill Top Care Center in Parker, SD following an extended ilness.

She was born on Sept. 5 1914 at Stauton, Ill. to Thomas Lystra and Effie Bell (Bond) Jarmon. Her family moved to the Shellsburg area where she attended high school and she graduated from the Nevada, Iowa, High school in 1932. She then completed her Teachers Training course and taught in rural schools in the Vinton area until 1943. On June 6, 1943 she and Robert L. Paterson were joined in marriage at Marshalltown, Iowa. The couple lived in Shellsburg many years and Mr.Robert L. Paterson preceded his wife in death on April 19, 1985. Until moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1998, Mrs. Paterson had been a member of Grace Trinity Church and was active in Camfire, The Rebeckah Lodge, the Democratic Party and the Palo Senior Citizen Group.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and the Rev. Dale Lint of George, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Pat Paterson of West Valley City Utah; grandchildren. Darren, Jeremy, Derrick, Tiffany, Toby, and Jordon; seven great grandchildren, her sister Dorthy Montgomery of Shellsburg; and a host of relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters, and a great grandson.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Feb 26,2000 at Grace Trinity Church om Shellsburg with the Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg...

Robert L. Paterson

Shellsburg-Robert L. Paterson age 69, died late Friday afternoon April 19, at his residence after suffering an apparent heart attack.

He was born in Vinton on Sept 30, 1915 a son of Robert and Anna Grace Hendricks Paterson. during WWI,he served his country with the US Army. On June 9, 1943 he married Ruth Jarmon at Marshalltown, Iowa. Mr. Paterson retired as a milling machine operator at Collins in 1978. He was a member of the Good News Baptist Church of Cedar Rapids where he was active in the AWANA and Caleb clubs of the church.

Surviors include his wife; Ruth one daughter Mrs. Dale Lint of Sheldon, Iowa one son Rich of Cedar Rapids. Six grand children Darren and Derrick Lint and Jereme,Tiffany,Tobey and Jordan Paterson. four sisters. Elizabeth Mrs Leonard Sullivan, and Mrs. Margaret Lermasney, both of Los Angeles Calif. Helen (Mrs. Arthur) both of Salem, Oregon, and Mrs (can't read this name sorry) Yerkes of Vinton. He was preceeded in death by his parents and his brother Harold.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Tuesday April 23, 1985 at Grace Trinity Church in Shellsburg with Rev. David Smith of the Good News Baptist Church of Cedar Rapids officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg...
