Clara Rebecca Meskimen
Shellsburg- Clara Rebecca Meskimen, age 85, died Monday afternoon, October 14, 1985 at Virginia Gay Hospital folling a brief illness.
She was born on November 23, 1899 at Shellsburg, the daughter of George G. and Marian E. Graham Mason. On April 3, 1918 she married C. L. (Doug) Meskimen at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mrs. Meskimen is survived by her daughter-in-law, LaVonne Meskimen of Rochelle, Ill.; three grandsons, Doug Meskimen of Shellsburg, Steven of Sycamore, Ill., and David of Shabbona, Ill.; two grandaughters Mary Meskimen King of Rochelle, Ill. and Ellen Meskimen of Sycamore, Ill. and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her son, Orlie, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday October 16, 1985 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Burt Kampman officiating, Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg...

LaVonne Marie Meskimen, age 82, of Rochelle, Il. formerly of Independence, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at her daughter's home in Rochelle.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Steven J. Rosonke as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg...
She is survived by three sons, Doug Meskimen and wife Margaret of Urbana, Steven Meskimen of Dekalbm Il., David Meskimen and wife Pam of Shabbona, Il., two daughters, Mary King and husband Al of Rochelle, Il., Ellen Hustad and husband Jeff of Jefferson, Wi., eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and her brother, Bernard Butler and wife Betty of Punte Gorde, Fl.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Orlie in 1973.
LaVonne was born January 15, 1921 near Independence to Guy Edward and Mary (McCardie) Butler. On October 1, 1947, she married Orlie Meskimen in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple lived in San Francisco, while Orlie was in the service. Following his discharge, they lived in Maquoketa for fourteen years and later moved to Genoa, Il., where LaVonne worked for Anaconda Wire in Sycamore, Il. LaVonne moved to Rochelle...1979.

Shellsburg, April 13- The remains of Lincoln Meskimen, 65, were brought here Saturday from Chicago for interment in the Shellsburg cemetery beside his parents, Mr and Mrs. Martin Meskimen. Deceased, was well known here, he was an expert egg candler. Those who accompained the body were a son, Alfred, a daughter Dolly, a brother,Ed Meskimen of Chicago, a brother George of Dubuque, and a nephew, Leslie Meskimen of Champaign, Ill.
