SHELLSBURG- Services for Bernard ("Mac") McIlrath 75, of 701 Main St. Shellsburg, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at the Shellsburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kirk Perucca officiating.
Mr. McIlrath died Monday, Oct 10 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids after a long illness. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg...
Mr. McIlrath was born April 29, 1908 in Hartwick, Iowa, the son of Nathaian and Stella Hakeman McIlrath.
He was married to Ester Barkdoll on August 3, 1932 in Elk Point, S. Dak.
He was a former superintendent of Iowa Canning Co. in Shellsburg, and was a teacher and coach for 17 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and had served on the school board and town council.
Survivors include his wife, Ester McIlrath of Shellsburg; two sons, Robert McIlrath of Atlanta Ga. And Kenneth McIlrath of Marion; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Martens of Tama, Evalena (Mrs. Bill) Dale of Brooklyn and Lila (Mrs. Lawrence) Foster of Las Vegas, Nev.; four brothers Clair McIlrath of Mesa, Ariz., Elven McIlrath of Colorado Springs, Colo., Floyd McIlrath of Vinton and Clifford McIlrath of Shellsburg.

SHELLSBURG-Ester J McIlrath, 77 died Tuesday, Febrary 23 1968 at her residence in Shellsburg.
She was born June 2, 1900 in Vinton to George and Anna Marietta Barkdoll.
Following high school graduation, she attended Iowa State Teacher’s College and taught school for 15 years in the Chelsea and Garrison area. On August 1 1932 she married Bernard McIlrath at Elk Point, South Dakota. He preceded his wife in death October 10, 1983. Mrs. McIlrath was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shellsburg and the Shellsburg Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons Robert of Franklin, Wisconsin, and Kenneth of Marion; four grandchildren, Michael, Kenton, Gayle and Anjanette McIlrath; one great grandchild Jessie McIlrath and one brother, Howard Barkdoll of White Bear Lake Minnesota. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 27, at the First Presbyterian Church of Shellsburg with her nephew, Rev. Jim Dale officiating. Interment will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.
