Edward Lillis, Railroad Employee, Passes Away On Blairstown Street
Edward George Lillis

Edward George Lillis, son of Michael and Margaret Lillis was born in Toronto, Ia., Nov. 29, 1886, and passed away on Blairstown Main street very suddenly Tuesday morning Jan. 4, 1944, age 59 years. At the time of his death Jim Hildenbrand, a brother of Mrs. Lillis, was with him. He had been employed by the Northwestern Railroad for many years, but on account of poor health had not been working since Nov. 23 or last year. He had been hunting the day before his death and told his friends he was feeling fine. On Feb. 24, 1910, in Blairstown he was married to Lillie Hildenbrand. If Mr. Lillis had lived until next month they intended to celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary with most of their children and grandchildren around them.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and eight children, Lyle in the army, Ival of Watkins, Mrs. Velma Dusek of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Mary Gessner of Springville, Mrs. Nadine Meyers of Clarence, Mrs. Marjory Hollen of Cedar Rapids, Barbara and Audrey are deceased. He also leaves two sisters, Sarah Roach and Belle Kreinbring of Clinton and a host of relatives and friends who are deeply grieved at the sudden departure of a good neighbor and friend. One brother Albert Lillis passed away several years ago.

Pallbearers are the men who worked with Mr. Lillis on the railroad: Otis Grigsby, Eddie Rabe, Ralph Rabe, John Pirchal, M. R. Woods, Frank Yanecheck.

Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. J. C. B. Peck. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery south of town.
