Lucy Latham

Obituary.

The funeral of Mrs. Lucy Latham was held Sunday afternoon at the home of her son, Levi Latham, the services being conducted by Rev. S. S. Hilscher.

Lucy R. Butterfield was born in Alleghany county, New York, February 26, 1826. She was married October 19, 1848, to Geo. W. Latham, at Centerville, N. Y. In the autumn of 1869 she moved with her family to Virginia and a year later to Iowa, where she has since resided. Her husband died January 6, 1891. She was the mother of three sons, one of whom died in infancy, the other two, Levi W. Latham, of Vinton, and J.F. Latham, of Taylor township, survive her and were present to perform the last sad duties of children to a parent. She also leaves behind four brothers, two of whom live in Vinton, one in Oklahoma and one in northern Iowa.

The deceased had for more than 40 years been a professed christian. In 1958 (sic) she united with teh Presbyterian church in Centerville, N.Y. , and in 1893 became a member of the Presbyterian church at Vinton. A large circle of relatives and acquaintances mourn their loss. Her burial was in the cemetery five miles southeast of Vinton.
