OBITUARY OF A. A. KIBBIE
Almond Adelbert Kibbie

Following is an obituary of A.A. Kibbie, a resident of Benton county for 43 years, whose death occurred suddenly at Shellsburg last Saturday.

Almond Adelbert Kibbie, son of Hiram and Louisa Kibbie, was born in New york state, March 10, 1856. He died March 15, 1924, at Shellsburg, age 68 years and 5 days.

He was united in marriage to Mary Harrigan to this union on daughter was born, who survives. The wife died shortly after the baby's birth of typhoid fever. November 28, 1879, Mr. Kibbie was married to Miss Lucy Craig at her home in Pennsylvania. Four sons and one daughter were born to this union.

Mr. Kibbie came to Iowa in 1880. He located in Benton County and lived here until his death, with the exception of two years spent in Kansas. When a boy he joined the Methodist church. He had been affiliated with the I.O.O.F. lodge 33 years. He was also a charter member of Orion Rebekah lodge at Shellsburg.

Surviving are the widow, and her children, Mrs. Mattie Dripps, Edward and James of Shellsburg, William of Cedar Falls, and Earl of Wichita, Kansas. There is one brother Edward Kibbie, an invalid living at Des Moines. Other relatives include fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchilden.

The funeral was held Monday at 1:30p.m. from the residence. Rev. C.W. Batton officated at the services. The I.O.O.F. lodge conducted its rituualistic ceremony. Burial in the Shellsburg cemetery.

SHELLSBURG MAN DIES SUDDENLY. A. A. Kibbie Falls Dead at His Place of Business.

Shellsburg, Ia. March 15-The sudden death of A. A. Kibbie, 68, proprietor of a local garage, occurred at 8:45 this morning at his place of business. Mr. Kibbie started to leave the garage to go to the wood shed. He fell in the garage doorway, Clarence Bergen, who is employed at the garage, heard some one moaning. Upon investigating the sounds, he found Mr. Kibbie in an unconscious condition. Messrs Bergen and Emmett Dripps. the later a son in law of Mr. Kibbie and a partner in the garage, carried Mr. Kibbie to his home nearby. He died in a few minutes. Death was due to a sudden attack of heart trouble. Mr. Kibbie had been in his usual health and had not complained of feeling indisposed. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.

For a period of ten years, Mr. Kibbie has resided at this place. The family came here from Urbana, having lived in that community for a number of years. Last Sunday the 68th birthday anniversary of Mr. Kibbie was celebrated by a family dinner and reunion. He was a member of the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges.

Surving are the widow and five children, four sons and a daughter. The children are Ed Kibbie, living west of this place, William of Cedar Rapids; James of Shellsburg; another son in Kansas, and Mrs. Mattie Dripps, of this place. There are ten grandchildren. Deceased was well and favorable known in Polk and Canton township.

Ed Kibbie Dies at Shellsburg: Burial May Be on Monday.

Shellsburg, Feb. 11-Ed Kibbie, 57, died at 7:45 a.m. today at his home here after suffering a severe heart attack about a week ago... Funeral services have been tentatively set for 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Federted church here.

Born May 14, 1881, on a farm south of Urbana, the deceased moved to Shellsburg with his parents Del and Mary Kibbie, at the age of 14. He had spent all of his life in Benton County. The deceased married Miss Lena Roths of Atkins on October 14, 1902, at Cedar Rapids and they started housekeeping in Urbana. They moved to Shellsburg in 1903 and spent two years here before starting to farm. Twelve years ago they returned to Shellsburg and have since made their home here. Mr. Kibbie was a district sale manager for the Oelwein Chemical Co. He served on the local school board. for six years and was instrumental in bringing about the construction of the present consolidated school.

Surviving are four sons, Delbert, Clear Lake; George, Conroy; Richard, Shellsburg; and Edward a senior in high school at home. There are four grandchildren, Delma Jean, Bill, Bobby and Donna Lee Kibbie. Mrs. Lou McCortney, Long beach, Cal; Mrs. Emmett Dripps, Shellsburg, Will of Cedar Rapids, Jim, Shellsburg, and Earl, Oklahoma City, Okla., are the brother and sisters who survive.

DEATH REMOVES MRS. A. A. KIBBIE OF SHELLSBURG

SHELLSBURG-Mrs. Mary Kibbie, 74 years, widow of A.A. Kibbie, a resident of Benton County 53 years, died Wednesday at ll:30 at the home of her daughter , Mrs. Emmett Dripps of Shellsburg, She had been ill thirteen weeks with heart disease.

Funeral rites will be held here Friday at 2:00p.m. in the Federated church. The Rev. L.W.Inman will be in charge of the services. Interment will be in the Shellsburg cemetery. Mary Craig, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Craig, was born in Glasgow, Scotland June 26, 1859. She came with her parents to New York at the age of eleven years. Her marriage to A.A. Kibbie occured in 1879 at Pittsburg, Pa. They located on a Benton County farm in 1880. Mr. Kibbie died nine years ago. Since 1913 the deceased had resident at Shellsburg, having retired from a farm in this community. She was a member of the Urbana Christian Church until uniting with the M.E. church here.

Four sons and a daughter surviving the mother are Edward and James Kibbie and Mrs. Mattie Dripps of Shellsburg, W. A. Kibbie of Cedar Rapids and Earl L. Kibbie of Oklahoma City. Other members of her family include ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.

Robert R. Kibbie

Robert R. Kibbie, 52 died Monday night at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. He was ill 5 1/2 weeks.

He was manager of Fabrication Inspection at Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids for 34 years. From 1974 to 1986 he was city clerk of Shellsburg, and for many years before 1974 he was on the Shellsburg City Council. He also was retired from the Shellsburg Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Marie; three daughters, Deanna Lipcamon and Janelle Kibbie, both of Shellsburg, and Shari Blattler of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Robert R. Jr of Shellsburg, father and stepmother, Richard and Kathleen Kibbie of Shellsburg; a brother, J. Edward of Palo; a sister, Karolynn Roehr of Shellsburg; Five grandchildren.

Services: 2 pm Thursday at Shellsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery.
