Henry Jordan
On last Friday afternoon our town was shocked to hear that Henry Jordan a respected citizen had shot himself with a rifle, death resulting almost immediately. Mr. Jordan was suffering with a cancer of the throat and it was becoming so bad that he could not swallow anything and he preferred to kill himself rather than die the slow and painful death that the disease meant. Mr. Jordan was born in Germany fifty-eight years ago and had long been a resident of Kane township. First on a farm about four miles west and later on in town. His wife died about five years ago also of cancer and since then his niece Miss Jessie Shutt has been caring for his home. Two brothers Clause and Hans of this city and two sisters Mrs. Hintz of Davenport and Mrs. Shuman of Everly survive him beside the many friends he had. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock Sunday. The services at the house were conducted by Rev. Christianson of Dysart who preached from the text "Judge not that ye be not judged." The Odd Fellows lodge of which the deceased was a member took charge at the grave. About hundred of the fraternity were present many coming form Van Horne, Elberon and Belle Plaine.
