A Former Shellsburg Resident Dies Sunday

Shellsburg, July 27, Special: Jerry Hammon, a resident of Shellsburg most of his life, passed away Sunday at his home north of Vinton. The deceased was about 65 years of age and has been ill a long time with annnnemia. He was engaged in blacksmithing and practiced as a veterinary during his residence here. He is survived by his wife and eight sons. The remains were brought to Shellsburg and funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday, in charge of the local Odd Fellows lodge. Rev. Leisure of Urbana officiated and interment was in Oakwood.

Jerry Hammon
Jerry Hammon passed away at his home near Vinton, having been sick for a long time. Mr. Hammon resided in and near this city most of his life. He was married to Mary White and nine sons were born to them. On son, Carl, died when small. The others are Archie, Robert, Fred, Clarence, Leo, Earl, Victor and Lester, who with the mother are left to mourn. All the sons were present with the exception of Fred, who lives in California. Mr. Hammon is also survived by four brothers and two sisters, Steve and Frank of California, Arthur of Urbana, Jack of Backus, Minn, Mrs. Rose Fink of California, and Mrs. Maude Tulit of Ohio. Mr. Hammon was a member of the IOOF lodge of this city and had been a veterinary surgeon for years. He had a host of friends here who are sorrowed at his death. The funeral was held at the Baptist church Tuesday morning at ten o'clock and interment was in the Shellsburg Cemetery.
