Vinton Eagle, Vinton; April 17, 1903

Eliza Speer Glendy

Eliza Ann Spear was born February 27, 1841, in Ripley County, Indiana. Her family came to Iowa in 1853 and settled in Taylor Twp.in 1857. Five children were born to this union, three girls and two boys. Three are dead, leaving one daughter in California and one son in Tama City, Iowa. Mr. Glendy and family came to Vinton 26 years ago. Sister Glendy's health gave way 11 years ago and most of the time she has been afflicted with rheumatism and later with the lingering, but deadly tumor, of which she died on Sabbath morning, April 12, 1903. Her long and protracted illness, which she patiently endured, furnished her with the oppprtunity to prepare for he departure to the home of the souls. We sympathize with her devoted husband who had so patiently and faithfully ministered to her during he long illness and also with the other members of the family.

{Submitter comment: The correct spelling on the maiden name is actually Speer. Her mother Mary Leeper Speer, wife of William Speer, and other family members are buried at Bear Creek, Benton Co.}
