Charles Engel
Charles Engle, who was foreman of the construction gang of the Michigan Telephone Co., operating in this section, was taken sick with intermittent fever on Monday, July 23rd, at the National Hotel, and was taken to the Sanitarium on Wednesday, July 25th, after a hard struggle for life died on Saturday, August 11th. His remains were taken to Atkins, Iowa, by his father and brother, who were both present at the time of his death, on Sunday evening, the 12th. All the care and tender nursing that it was possible to render while at the National Hotel, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery bestowed upon the deceased, and he also had the very best of care at the Sanitarium. Mr. Engle, the deceased, was an efficient official, highly respected by the men under him. His death is deplored by the company..

Eva Rosina Engel
Vinton, Aug. 26. Mrs. J. G. Engel, a resident of Linn and Benton counties for sixty years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schirn , two miles west of Vinton, Thursday at 2:45 a. m. after an illness of two months. Most of the time she had lived on a farm one mile west of Covington. Funeral services will be held in the home of her daughter Saturday at 2 p. m. and burial will be made in Vinton cemetery..

Mrs. Eva Keller Died At Home of Daughter
Eva Rosina Engel nee Keller
Mrs. Eva Keller, a resident of Atkins, died at 2:45 a.m. yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schirm, in Jackson township. She was 75 years old and her death followed an illness of several weeks.. Mrs. Keller was born September 25, 1846, in Germany. For a long period of years the family home has been at Atkins. Six weeks ago Mrs. Schirm brought her parents to her home in Jackson township, where the mother was tenderly cared for during her last illness.. Mrs. Keller is survived by her husband, one son in Wisconsin, another son in Minnesota, and the daughter, Mrs. Schirm.. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but the funeral will be held at the Schirm home Saturday or Sunday, with interment in Evergreen cemetery in this city..

J. C. Engel Dies At Country Home Of His Daughter. Benton County News - Following an illness of three months resulting from the infirmities of old age, J. C. Engel, 81 years old, former resident of Atkins, died at 1:30 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schirm, two miles west of Vinton on the Red Ball. He had been bedfast five weeks.
Funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Schirm home, with the Rev. W. G. Rowley of Vinton officiating. Burial in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Engel was born October 3, 1845, at Baden, Germany. He came to this country when ten years old and to Benton county in 1897. His marriage to Eve Keller took place at Marion, Ia., April 2, 1868. Mrs. Engel died five years ago last August at the Schirm home. Three children survive: George Engel of Clear Lake, Ia. , Mrs. Ida Leu of Rush City, Minn., and Mrs. Schirm of Vinton. There are seventeen grandchildren. One son Charles is deceased.

Benton County Man Was Buried Sunday. [Special to the Gazette] VINTON, Dec. 6 - Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon, at the Jacob Schirm home two miles west of Vinton, for J. C. Engle , 81, father of Mrs. Schirm, whose death occurred Friday. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in this city.
Mr. Engle was a former resident of the Atkins vicinity. He was born October 3, 1845, at Baden, Germany, and came to this country when ten years of age. He was married April 2, 1868, at Marion, to Miss Eve Keller, and they came to Benton county to live in 1897. Mrs. Engle died five years ago last August. Surviving Mr. Engle are three children, George Engle, Clear Lake; Mrs. Ida Leu, Rush City, Minn; and Mrs. Jacob Schirm, Vinton. There are also seventeen grandchildren. One son preceded the father in death.
