DEATH REMOVES MRS. DAUGHERTY OF SOUTH SLOPE

Mrs. Mary Daugherty, 62 years old, who has lived in this community nearly all her life, died this afternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Russell of Newhall. She has been ill several weeks with pneumonia. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Surviving are the mother, two sisters and a brother, namely, Mrs. Lou Rowland of Greeley, Ia., Mrs. Henry Graham of Shellsburg and John Russell who lives with the mother.

W. Daugherty Dies Suddenly at Farm Home

Shellburg April 29, 1931-Willis Daugherty, 69 years old, a resident of Benton County for 40 years died suddenly Tuesday morning at ten o'clock at his home in the Oak Grove Community north of Shellsburg. Mr. Daugherty seemed as well as usual at breakfast, but was stricken soon after with an acute attack of indigestion followed by a paralytic stroke. Three years ago he had a stroke and never fully recovered.
Funeral arrangements await the arrival of relatives from a distance, two brother and a sister living in Ohio and another brother residing at Spencer, Iowa.
Willis Daugherty was born Feb. 22, 1862 in Ohio. He was married in 1891 to Miss Alice Freeman near Shellsburg. Besides his widow there are two children: Robert Daugherty living on the home farm and Mrs. Glenn Mullinex of Shellsburg. There are six grandchildren.
Mr. Daugherty was an active member of Oak Grove Christian Church and had served as an elder for many years.
