Joan M. Cihla
Joan M. Cihla, age 70, died early Tuesday morning, August 19, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, August 22, 2003 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Pastor Larry Rodgers of the Oak Grove Church officiating. Intement will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Joan was born July 16, 1933 a Urbana to Clinton and Pearl (Ferguson) Thomas and graduated from the Urbana High School. On December 27, 1952 she married Kenneth Cihla at Cedar Rapids. For serveral years she was employed at Killians Department Store in Cedar Rapids. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Shellsburg; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mary Cihla of Amana, and Richard and Kristine Cihla of Urbana; her daughter, Connie Johnson of Cedar Rapids; nine grandsons; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Cihla; her brother Howard Thomas, and two sisters, Helen Evers, and Lillian Wehde
