John Cairns Jr.

John Howard Cairns Jr., age 80, of Dallas center died on Friday morning, June 24, 2011 at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia with Father Mike Volkmer officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by American Legion Howard Cessna Post 136 of Albia followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery...

He was born in Colfax on October 21, 1930 to John Howard and Jean Frances (Liddell) Cairns. John graduated from High School in Tooele, UT. He then served in the Air Force for four years. After his time with the service he went to Iowa State University, graduating with a bachelors degree in Agriculture. He taught school in Manilla, SE Warren and Belle Plaine and Oskaloosa Iowa. John met his wife Cecelia McEniry while working in Belle Plaine. He later earned his Masters Degree from Iowa State University and taught at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale before moving to Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, where he taught for 31 years before retiring in 1995. John enjoyed Iowa State University football, whether they won or lost, and was a season ticket holder for many years.

He is survived by his wife Celcilia (Typed as spelled) Claire (McEniry) Cairns and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News Thurs 30 June 2011..
