Mrs. Carrie Risdon Bruce was born in Vermont October 20th, 1842, and died at her home in Newhall on Monday, Jan. 2nd, 1911. When seven years of age she moved with her parents to Pontiac, N.Y., and from there to Hennepin Ill., where on Nov. 4th, 1858, she was married to Marshall Bruce. They came to Iowa in '73, locating at Troy Mills. To this union five children were born, two daughters and three sons, of which one son and one daughter survive. They are: Mrs. Wm. J. Smith of Mason City, Iowa, and O.R. Bruce of Iowa City. There also remain to mourn, her husband and one sister. Mrs. Bruce was an affectionate wife, a kind mother and a good neighbor.

Ed Bruce
Vinton — Ed Bruce, 77, farmer in the Oak Grove community southeast of Vinton, Sunday at 10 following an illness of nine months; born Dec. 6. 1873, to Mr. and Mrs. George Bruce, near Brandon; married Feb. 8, 1905, to Almina Clark, who survives, with three children, Willis B., Shellsburg; Mrs. Zola Van de Venter, Garrison, and Mrs. Loreen Starks, Cedar Rapids: one brother, Fred Bruce, of Waubeek; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; had lived on his Oak Grove farm since 1909; rites, Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. in the Oak Grove Christian church, of which he was a member; burial in Urbana cemetery.
