PRESLEY HUTTON, deceased, one of the pioneers of this county, coming in 1856, was born at Point Pleasant, Va., in 1807. He was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Henderson) Hutton. In the winter of 1861-62 our subject came to what is now Belle Plaine, and aided in laying out the town. He made this his home until his death, which occurred Jan. 13, 1884. He dealt in real estate, besides being identified with other interests.
Our subject was united in marriage at Knightstown, Ind., in 1837, to Miss Margaret Johnston, daughter of James and Rebecca (Davis) Johnston. She was a native of Kentucky, being born there in 1812. Four children were born of this union: Huldah A., Rebecca E., Margaretta and John Q. Mrs. Hutton died Oct. 19, 1873. Mr. Hutton was an earnest Republican, and while he would never accept a public office, he was active in support of the principles of that party. He and his wife were members of the Baptist Church.
