ABRAHAM KILE, farmer, residing upon section 6, Cedar Township, came to Benton County in the spring of 1857, and located in Cedar Township in the fall of 1858. He was born in Lancaster County, Pa., Aug. 5, 1826, and is a son of George and Catherine (Jaquette) Kile. His parents were born in the same county, the father of Scotch and the mother of French descent; they are both deceased.Mr. Kile was brought up on a farm in Pennsylvania, but learned the carpenter's trade. He was married Oct. 18, 1851, to Miss Susan Gingrich, born in Lancaster County, April 10, 1827, a daughter of Daniel and Catherine (Hoofer) Gingrich. Her parents were also natives of Lancaster County, but of German descent. Her father is deceased, and her mother resides with the daughter. Mr. Kile came with his family to Iowa in the spring of 1856, landing at Iowa City April 6, where they remained one year, and, May 1, 1857, removed to Leroy Township, near the present village of Blairstown, where they remained until September, 1858, when they removed to their present farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Kile have been parents of eight children — Penena, born May 7, 1853, wife of Frank D. Lindsley, living in Iowa City; Emeline, born Sept. 21, 1854, died in January, 1857; Monroe W., born Dec. 6, 1855, died in infancy; Henry W., born Nov. 16, 1857, now in Colorado, farming; Catherine C., born Nov. 8, 1859, living at home; Lizzie R., born Oct. 13, 1862, is a teacher; Abraham L., born Sept. 5, 1865, attending school at Iowa City; Anna M., born Oct. 21, 1867, a teacher. Mr. Kile was Trustee of Cedar Township nine years, and School Director for several years. In politics he is a Republican. He is the owner of 500 acres of land. Mrs. Kile is a member of the German Reformed Church.
