THOMAS C. GOLDEN, D. D., M. D., deceased, studied medicine in England, his native country, receiving a certificate from the Old School. He was married three times, the last taking place in June, 1863. His third wife was born in London, England, and came to America when quite young, and became acquainted with Rev. Golden while he was Presiding Elder in La Crosse. By their union there was one child — Ethel. Previous to the death of her husband Mrs. Golden had taken an interest in medicine, and in his absence often prescribed. After his death she attended the State University of Iowa, and in 1882 graduated in medicine. She came immediately to Vinton and commenced practice, being very successful. Dr. Golden was licensed to preach in the Methodist Episcopal Church, and during a long life was an able, useful and devoted worker for his Master. He died May 29, 1879.
