WILLIAM W. YOCOM, junior partner of Yocom Bros., dealers in grain, lumber, coal and farm machinery, at Luzerne, was born in Morgan County, Ohio, Sept. 3, 1848, and is the son of Thomas and Sarah Yocom. He was reared on a farm, and in 1869 came to Luzerne, where he engaged as salesman with the firm of Hall & Penrose, grain and lumber dealers. He continued in their employ, and later with their successors, till 1874, in which year he purchased an interest in the business, and has since continued a member of the firm.
Mr. Yocom was married in Columbus, Ohio, April 9, 1879, his bride being Miss Margaret Dutro, daughter of Elmer Dutro. Mrs. Yocom was born in Washington County, Ohio. They have one child living, Alice Emily, born Nov. 3, 1884. Mr. Yocom has been actively identified with his present business for many years, and is widely and favorably known throughout the region tributary to Luzerne. In politics he affiliates with the Republican party; he is a member of Luzerne Lodge No. 275, I. O. O. F., and of the Legion of Honor of Iowa. Mr. Yocom was reared in the Quaker or Hicksite Church, and his wife is connected by membership with the Methodist Episcopal Church.
